Waqar Younis appointed as Bowling Coach and Zaheer Abbas as Team Manager!

Waqar Younis, former captain and the great fast bowler of Pakistan is appointed as the bowling Coach for Pakistan Cricket team. He has been well known for his reverse swing bowling and full length in-swing yorkers. He is the 2nd bowler after Wasim Akram to take 400+ wickets in One day games. His repute was also as one of the “TWO Ws” who ruled the cricket grounds for more than a decade. Waqar also got some success as captain as well. World Cup 2003, played in South Africa was his last tournament. He got retirement from cricket next year in 2004 and joined the commentary box at Ten Sports after some time.

It was required to have a bowling coach for the team. Because present coach Bob Woolmer was a batsman, our captain Inzamam-ul-Haq is also a batsman. Moreover all senior players like Muhammad Yousaf, Muhammad Younis are batsman and players like Afridi and Abdul Razzaq are not specialist bowlers. It was a big problem to guide the bowlers properly as Wasim and Waqar had left international cricket without leaving their alternative other than Shoaib Akhtar who is never reliable to be fit.

Former Captain Imran Khan had already emphasized on the need of having a bowling coach for Pakistan. He had been stressing over this issue before India-Pakistan Series. He had recommended that PCB should hire Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis or Aqib Javed as bowling coach to trace out the shortcomings of many talented bowlers.

Waqar Younis has been employed till the upcoming 2007 World Cup. He has assigned the responsibility as a bowling coach for under-19 and First class cricket as well and probably will be coaching at some younger level also.

Zaheer Abbas, a superb batsman who was called as ‘Zaheer Ab Bus’ by his rival, is appointed as team manager for the team for visit to Sri Lanka. Probably Waqar and Zaheer would be with team during the visit to Sri Lanka.
